The four tabs
Inbox holds what needs an action from you. A feedback request, a self assessment that is due, a goal you have been assigned, a goal of yours that somebody marked blocked, a reminder you set, a learning resource added to your plan, a check in that has come round.
Feed holds what you should know and need not act on. Recognition you received, a review cycle opening, a goal of yours completed, progress logged against one of your goals, feedback somebody gave you.
Read holds what you have already seen, from either of the first two.
Archive holds what is no longer current. Read and archived are different states on purpose: read means you have seen it, archived means it has stopped mattering, and a task that went overdue in March and was finished in April is exactly where the two come apart.
Each tab carries its own count, and each count describes the list that tab shows.
What you can do with a notice
Press it to open the record it is about. Mark it read. Archive it to put it out of the way, and un archive it if you archived the wrong one. Mark all read clears the list you are looking at and leaves the archive alone.
An inbox forgets on its own: anything past a month is archived for you.
Where else notices reach you
A toast in the app. When something arrives while you are working, it appears briefly in the corner.
A browser notification. Only if you granted permission, and only when the Rople tab is not the one you are looking at.
A daily email digest. Unread items grouped into what needs your attention and what has been happening. It respects the email setting in your Account, so turning email off turns the digest off.
Why you were told
Rople routes a notice by how much weight the event carries, not by which module it came from.
- A note, a comment or an activity entry reaches the record's owner and their manager, in the feed.
- A rename, a re date or a change of scope does the same.
- Something late or blocked reaches the owner and their manager, in the inbox.
- Something true of the company, such as a company goal or a budget, reaches executives, in the inbox.
Three rules sit behind that. You are never told about something you did yourself. A manager means one hop up, your own manager rather than everybody above you. And an executive inbox carries only company level notices, because its value is entirely in what is missing from it.
Personal to dos are narrower still. If one of yours goes overdue, you hear about it and nobody else does. A to do is what you wrote on your own list, and forwarding it upward would turn a private list into a monitored one.
Turning things down
Your Account has a preferences screen with a toggle per module and a switch for in app notices as a whole. Preferences are applied before a notice is written, so a module you have switched off never accumulates rows you did not want.
Common questions
Something in my inbox disappeared and I did not touch it. Some notices are worked out live from the records rather than stored: a self assessment that is due, a pending feedback request, a goal reminder. When the underlying work is done they stop being true and stop appearing. That is the intended behaviour and it is why they cannot be archived.
Why does the badge not match what I can see? Each tab counts its own list. The inbox badge counts unread inbox items, not archived ones, so reading the archive does not change it.
Can I get the inbox as a page? No. It is a panel everywhere, so checking it never costs you your place.
